Bohaterami filmu są dwaj artyści – przedstawiciele pewnego okresu i kontekstu w sztuce konceptualizmu: Jan Świdziński (lat 85) z Polski, oraz Joseph Kosuth (lat 63), artysta amerykański, mieszkający w Rzymie. Artyści spotykają się w pracowni Josepha Kosutha w Rzymie. Świdziński i Kosuth poznali się w latach 70-tych, na międzynarodowej konferencji w Toronto w Kanadzie poświęconej zagadnieniom kontekstualizmu. Joseph Kosuth, przedstawiciel powstałej w 1968 r. słynnej grupy Art. & Language (w jej skład weszli, m. in.: Terry Atkinson, David Bainbridge, Michael Baldwin i Harold Hurrell), uważany jest za twórcę, który odegrał fundamentalną rolę w narodzinach sztuki konceptualnej. W maju 1969 roku grupa zaczęła publikować magazyn zatytułowany Art-Language, z podtytułem Magazyn Sztuki Konceptualnej. Idea nowego konceptualizmu w wydaniu Kosutha, który w 1969 r. opublikował ważny, programowy tekst Art after Philosophy – polegała na zastąpieniu sztuki jako przedmiotu, sztuką jako ideą, co było rewolucyjnym artystycznym gestem. Dzięki intymnej atmosferze rozmowy poważne treści podawane są w sposób klarowny, obrazowy, czytelny. Zarówno Kosuth jak i Świdziński stwarzają nastrój bliskości z widzem. Obydwaj twórcy unikają wielkich słów, niezrozumiałych określeń. O sobie samym i o Świdzińskim, ich wkładzie w historię sztuki, ciągłej obecności, Kosuth mówi w sposób prosty i skromny.

The heroes of the film are two artists, representatives of conceptual art: the 85 year-old Jan Świdziński from Poland and the 63 year-old Joseph Kosuth, an American living in Rome. They meet in the latter’s studio in Rome. Their first encounter was in the 1970s in Toronto, at an international conference on contexual art. A prominent member of the famous Art & Language group (created in 1968, with Terry Atkinson, David Bainbridge, Michael Baldwin and Harold Hurrell), Joseph Kosuth played a fundamental role in the birth of conceptual art. In May 1969 the group started the publication of the periodical Art-Language, subtitled Magazine of Conceptual Art. In the same year Kosuth published an important programmatic text ‘Art after Philosophy’. His idea of new conceptualism consisted in substituting art as an object with art as an idea. This was a revolutionary artistic gesture. Thanks to an intimate atmosphere of the conversation, its serious topics are presented in a clear and lucid way. Both Kosuth and Świdziński create a close rapport with the viewers, avoiding grand words and incomprehensible notions. The way Kosuth talks about his friend and himself, and about their contribution to modern art is very simple and modest.
