Czesław Miłosz w Wilnie spędził lata szkolne i uniwersyteckie. Mimo upływu 50 lat od kiedy wyjechał z Wilna, stale przebywał w nim wyobraźnią. Barwnie opowiada o swoich kolejnych miejscach zamieszkania, o szkołach do których chodził, nauczycielach, o uniwersytecie i wykładowcach, studenckim Klubie Włóczęgów, wileńskich parkach, kawiarniach, o współpracy z wileńskim radiem. Debiutował w roczniku „Alma Mater Viliensis” a potem w „Żagarach”. Wileński oddział Związku Literatów Polskich mieścił się w budynku, w którym wraz z grupą Filomatów więziony był Adam Mickiewicz. W XX wieku Wilno 13 razy zmieniało sztandary, coraz to inna armia stacjonowała w mieście: polska, litewska, rosyjska, sowiecka, niemiecka. „Przemijalność może być oddana tylko w literaturze, bo tylko język ma czas przeszły, kilka czasów przeszłych”. „Gdy jestem w Wilnie – żałuję, że tu nie mieszkam na stałe” kończy Czesław Miłosz. Jest to ostatni film zrealizowany przez jego brata Andrzeja.

Poet Czesław Miłosz spent his school and university years in Vilnius. Although fifty years passed since he left, he still lived there in his imagination. He recounts the places where he stayed, the schools he attended, teachers, the university and the lecturers, the students' Ramblers Club, local parks, cafes, work for the radio. He debuted in the annual ‘Alma Mater Viliensis’ and then contributed for the ‘Żagary’ literary monthly. The Vilnius chapter of the Polish Literary Union had its home in the same building where Polish bard Adam Mickiewicz had been imprisoned with a group of rebellious patriotic students in 1823. In the 20th century Vilnius changed colours thirteen times, with different armies stationed in the city: Polish, Lithuanian, Russian, Soviet and German. ‘Transitoriness can only be expressed in literature, as only language has a past tense, several past tenses in fact’. When I'm in Vilnius I regret that I don't live here permanently’, Czesław Miłosz says at the end of the film, the last film made by his brother Andrzej.
