Wymaga to wzmocnienia władzy wykonawczej oraz kontroli sprawowanej nad nią przez Sejm. Wymaga to przebudowania systemu parlamentarnego by wyeliminować zeń partyjniactwo i prywatę. Wymaga wprowadzenia rządów prawa i nieustępliwej walki z korupcją we wszystkich jej postaciach i odmianach. Wymaga prasy zarazem wolnej i przepojonej poczuciem odpowiedzialności. Wymaga rozdziału Kościoła od państwa, wymaga poszanowania praw naszych mniejszości narodowych. Musimy pamiętać, że jest to warunkiem dobrych stosunków z sąsiadami”.

Reflections by Jerzy Giedroyć on Poland and himself. The last interview of the editor of the ‘Kultura’ monthly published in Paris. He describes his message as his testament: ‘First of all we should change the mentality of the nation. This requires stronger the government’s stronger executive power and a more efficient parliamentary control. This requires a rebuilding of the parliamentary system to eliminate from it vested party and particular interests. It requires introduction of the rule of law and a persistent war on corruption in all its forms and varieties. It requires press that is both free and imbued with the sense of responsibility. It requires the separation of Church and State as well as respect for rights of national minorities. We must remember that this is the condition of Poland’s good relations with its neighbours.
